If you watched my intro video on social media you know my mom is, so far, a breast cancer survivor. Breast Cancer Recurrence: Breast cancer cells can remain after a mastectomy, chemotherapy or other treatments. Over time, these cells can grow, causing breast cancer recurrence. Breast cancer can come back months or years later. Stage 4, or metastatic breast cancer, occurs when cancer spreads to other organs or bones (ClevlandClinic.org). Studies have shown diet can play a big role in the development and recurrence or nonrecurrence of breast cancer, some foods such as soy, flaxseed, broccoli, and diets high in fiber have been linked to breast cancer prevention. Now there is new evidence suggesting that foods rich in carotenoids may help reduce breast cancer risk by 19 percent. One type of carotenoid is beta-carotene, which most people associate with carrots, but there are many foods rich in beta-carotene such as, sweet potato, apricots, cantaloupe, red peppers, tomatoes, mango, grapefruit, pumpkin, butternut squash, and papaya.
